Greetings, newcomers, nomads, and nuisances!
I, ATLAS THE BARD, have returned to update my loyal readers on the adventures of the group of Coalition soldiers known as the “PC party!” You may be saying to yourself, “returned? Does that mean you’re back in Arancis?” Unfortunately not! I, alongside the PC party, am still trapped in the ancient and fabled Vault of Karna. This place is crawling with Void Elves and horrible monsters beyond human comprehension. And, even worse, I got stuck while climbing a tree and missed the party’s recent escapade! DRAT!! Fortunately, even inside an ancient Vault, my sources are excellent and my nosiness unbridled, so I have the full story to tell my readers (if I ever see them again…)
So, still stuck in the Vault. Big bummer!! But, the longer the party stays inside the Vault, the more history reveals itself to them. Recently, the group encountered visions from an ancient society long gone, giving them glimpses into the vibrant world the Vault once was. Recall that the Vault was once a city called Gazan where High Elves lived and did High Elf stuff.

The first vision unfolded with two craftsmen chatting while they worked. The two seemed like kind, ordinary folk, not masterful politicians or scheming Gods. In low murmurs, they spoke of a new chancellor of Gazan named Vamir, and how he seemed like a nice enough guy!! On an unrelated note, it seems concerning that no one can talk to the God Karna anymore… The neighboring Tribal Elves are getting angry and are considering attacking… Hopefully Vamir can help!! Dear readers, if you recall my previous correspondence, Vamir CANNOT help. It’s Vamir’s fault we’re in this mess. It was his meddling that manipulated Karna to sacrifice himself and trap this city inside this blasted Vault!! Of course, you can’t blame the two crafts-Elves for not knowing the future, as much as we may want to.

The second apparition followed some Elves that seemed not to be from Gazan (the society that once lived where the Vault stands now). Instead, they were talking about how Gazan seemed to be sending out fewer envoys than they once had, and good riddance to that, since they’d rather not have anything to do with the High Elves at all. The four Elves there all seemed to be from different societies, though in general good spirits with each other. But, one Elf in particular seemed to really dislike the High Elves, talking about oppression and subjugation and the like. The other elves did not necessarily seem to agree with this take, but didn’t necessarily oppose it either. The Elves continued to talk and discuss politics with each other, generally friendly. Whoever these Elves were to each other, they appeared to think themselves different from the High Elves from Gazan.

Strange things afoot, here in the Vault! But stranger things are yet to come… The final spectres unfolded, seemingly preparing some sort of magical ritual. They speak of a mysterious “end” to come, but it’s unclear what the end may be. As they cast, they seem almost casual, nonchalant, as if this incredible feat of magic is a mere trip to the market for people like them. Perhaps it is. Their spell creates an enormous golem who moves aside something heavy for them, and then promptly fades. Who were these people that such feats of magical prowess were so easy? Whoever they were, I’m not sure it mattered to the party, who seemed inspired by the moment to put together an impromptu fighting pit. Yup, those are our heroes, everyone.
Faithful readers, please hold out hope that we shall make our way home soon, and that the party will not gore each other to death in endless fighting pits! Until we see each other again: fight together, or die alone.
Signed,
Atlas the Bard
